Check the requirements for the residence permit for an employed person:
- You have a valid passport
- You have not been imposed with an entry ban
- You are not a danger to public order and security
- You are not a danger to public health
- You are not a danger to Finland’s international relations
- You have a job in Finland
- The salary for your job is sufficient
- Your salary must be at least the minimum salary specified in the collective agreement that applies to your sector. Read more about the collective agreements in Finland (tyosuojelu.fi).
- If there is no collective agreement or you are going to work part-time, your salary must be at least EUR 1,399 per month in 2024.
- Your employer meets certain requirements
- Your employer must pay their taxes and the statutory insurance premiums and be able to pay you salary. The terms and conditions of your employment relationship must comply with Finnish legislation. In addition, there is no labour force available for the work in question in Finland or within the EU/EEA within a reasonable time. Whether your employer meets the requirements or not will be assessed by the TE Office.
- Your employer fills in the required details about your employment relationship online in Enter Finland for Employers (enterfinland.fi).
- Your employer provides information about the terms of employment and adds all the necessary attachments. For instructions on how to fill in the required information and to submit the attachments that are required from employers, your employer can refer to the page Instructions for employers on filling in the terms of employment (migri.fi).

You can take photos of the attachments with your phone. Add the files to your application in Enter Finland. The following file formats are accepted: pdf, txt, rtf, jpg, png, gif.

If your employer cannot use the Enter Finland for Employers service, they can complete the ‘Terms of Employment’ form (pdf) on paper. Attach the form to your application in Enter Finland.

Is you job in the field of healthcare and social welfare?
Some professions in the field of healthcare and social welfare require professional practice rights. The right to practise a healthcare profession is granted on application by Valvira, Finland’s National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health.
Will you work as a care assistant or are you a medical student in training?
Licensing from Valvira is not needed if you work as a care assistant or if you are a medical student in training.
If your work requires professional practice rights, apply for them from Valvira.
On the grounds of an application, Valvira can grant the right to practise a healthcare profession for healthcare professionals educated either in Finland or abroad. Attach the decision from Valvira to your residence permit application.

When you applied for the job, did your employer ask to see your degree certificates and certificates of employment?
Your employer attaches the certificates to the application, if the Employment and Economic Development Office performs labour market testing.
You do not need to attach to your application any certificates of employment or certificates of your professional qualifications.
Will a family member of yours move to Finland with you?
Have the documents concerning your family relation legalised and translated. For more information about how documents are legalised, see the instructions of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (dvv.fi) and of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (um.fi).

Save a checklist of the required attachments
Get a photo of you
You will need a passport photo as an attachment to your application. However, do not upload the photo to Enter Finland. Instead, bring with you a passport photo when you visit the Finnish embassy or consulate or the VFS Global application centre in your country of residence to prove your identity.
The photo must comply with the passport photo instructions issued by the police (pdf).
Have your documents translated
If your documents are not in Finnish, Swedish or English, have them translated
- Have your documents translated by an authorised translator or by a translator who is considered to be an official translator by another EU Member State.
- You can ask the Finnish mission in your country of residence whether they know of any authorised translators in that country.
- You may have your documents translated by a translator who is not an authorised translator but in that case you need to have the translation legalised.
